Jody Kretzmann, co-founder and director of the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Institute, will lead a discussion about how communities, congregations and organizations marginalize certain groups  - such as the neighborhood in which we are located - often with the best of intentions. How does help hurt? How can service be enslaving? And what can we do to keep the unintended consequences of our good will from overwhelming its recipients? Perhaps part of the answer lies in the recognition that gifts, talents, skills and dreams are universal.

We meet for this session at Northeast Community Lutheran at Grace Center, a good example of asset-based development. 3 Lutheran congregations sold their buildings and together bought a school building, which now houses multiple congregations, a food shelf, and many other activities! http://necommunity.net

Seminary of the Streets is a collaborative effort born in the Minneapolis Area Synod to connect church members from urban and suburban contexts, stimulate discussion and innovative ideas, and sustain those for whom staying in their own "box" is not enough.
